At the end of May, the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo hosted a musical project being part of the communication campaign of the Swiss Government in Brazil. Together with the Montreux Jazz Festival, Swissando set up a program called “A Suìça encontra O Brasíl” in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the festival and its strong ties to Brazil. Beside a musical residence with the major rock bands Nação Zumbi and The Young Gods followed by two concerts, a Swissando Jazz Club got launched where Brazilians, Swiss and international musicians encountered celebrating the musical bonds and stimulating the creation of new musical bridges between nations and cultural exchange.

In order to continue the movement, we will proudly present the Swissando Jazz Club to the audience of the House of Switzerland Brazil 2016 during various shows and with different lines up.

For the special event dedicated to Lausanne the Olympic City and the Canton of Vaud, the Swissando Jazz Club is thrilled to invite three outstanding musicians that have been present in the Brazilian music scene for at least two decades, recording and touring extensively with top artists from Brazil and abroad.

Jazz guitarist Guilherme Monteiro, known for his crossover band Forró in the Dark, made his carreer in New York, contributing to the success of the post Bossa Nova superstar Bebel Gilberto. On the double bass, the omni-present Alberto Continentino recorded with almost every MPB top seller artist since the 90ies, and just released his first solo album. To put everything together in give it a afrojazz twist, the superb drummer and arranger Stephane San Juan, born in France but lived around the world playing with african legends like Amadou & Mariam, before settling in Brazil, where he toured with Vanessa da Mata, Adriana Calcanhotto and many others.

Keeping the jazz spirit of improvisation and mixing music genres, the Trio will have the honor of jamming with the African legend Manu Dibango, raising the expectations of unforgettable joyful musical moments at the House of Switzerland Brazil 2016.
