Meeting with ACE researchers

The Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition starts on 20 December 2016. It is the first project conducted by the Swiss Polar Institute (SPI). The aim of the expedition is to deepen our understanding the Earth’s polar environments and to strengthen cooperation on polar research. Switzerland fully supports initiatives of this kind.

More than 55 scientists from 30 countries are taking part in the mission.

We have interviewed a number of them.

Franziska Amesigger, Pascal Graf and Iris Thurnherr are carrying out a project on the interactions between the air and the sea.

Julia Schmale and Andrea Baccarini are focusing their interest on the Antarctic because it is one of the places with the purest air in the world and with the least pollution attributable to human activity.
