Bernese Oberland-Jungfrau

The Bernese Oberland welcomes you to the House of Switzerland

The imposing peaks of the Bernese Oberland invite you to climb to extraordinary highlights. On foot or with climbing skins under your feet, by cable car or high-mountain railway, by balloon or glacier airplane – the thinner the air, the greater the fun.

You can’t see enough of these Alpine mountain ranges and their majestic splendour. Die-hard alpinists can’t wait to ascend the icy dome of Blüemlisalp, climb the towering Finsteraarhorn or even conquer the notorious Eiger North Face. From the top, world-class panoramic views then provide the perfect overview.

Those who don’t have much experience in the mountains entrust themselves to a qualified mountain guide. Experts trudge, glide and climb upward on their own. If you find these activities too strenuous, you can board a train or cable car to reach higher spheres. The trundling Jungfrau Railway takes you through the Eiger massif and up to the Jungfraujoch – without any sweat but in equally spectacular fashion. The train even stops inside the fabled tunnel, offering fantastic views from amidst the Eiger North Face. The Jungfrau Railway celebrates its centenary in 2012. The Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe remains Europe’s highest-altitude railway station and has special attractions lined up for its centenary year.

The Bernese Oberland – Jungfrau holiday region has for many years been closely associated with the United Kingdom. After all it was the British who brought tourism to the Bernese Oberland some 150 years ago. We look forward to welcoming you at the House of Switzerland!
