„Heidi on the Move”, part of the “Swiss Games” collection, produced by Presence Switzerland and supported by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and the City and Canton of Zürich. The Swiss Games are exclusively launched at the House of Switzerland UK 2012.

Switzerland – A Creative Playground

In 1871, a British mountaineer called Leslie Stephen published a book about the Swiss Alps with the title of "The Playground of Europe", which was to become a classic work of mountaineering literature. If you are not already convinced that Switzerland is still a "creative playground" today, you certainly will be after your visit to the House of Switzerland.

Presence Switzerland, within the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), has set itself the objective of showcasing Switzerland for visitors to the House of Switzerland in a light-hearted manner, while at the same time conveying a creative image of a Switzerland packed with surprises.

For this reason, Presence Switzerland, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and the City and Canton of Zürich are launching a new made-in-Switzerland game for mobile phones and tablets in London. Moreover, the Swiss Game Lounge inside Glaziers Hall provides clear evidence that Swiss game designers can keep up with the best.

Swiss Games

Presence Switzerland at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, FDFA, is proud to present the "Swiss Games" collection of games for mobile devices: three different games that amuse their users and at the same time give them various items of information about Switzerland in an entertaining manner. The "Swiss Games" are being launched in the framework of the House of Switzerland UK 2012 at the Olympic Games in London and are going to be used again after that for Switzerland’s communication abroad in other projects in foreign countries.

The "Swiss Games" are being produced with the support of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, as well as the City and Canton of Zürich.

Swiss Game Lounge

During the Olympic Games in London, aficionados can discover for themselves the most creative Swiss computer games. The best and most interesting Swiss games have been handpicked for visitors to the Swiss Game Lounge to try out themselves.

The Swiss Game Lounge is the result of collaboration between Presence Switzerland, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, the City and Canton of Zürich and Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD), which has curated the exhibition. The selection combines pieces by established studios and designers with works by Swiss students from art and design universities, in particular games designed by the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and created for the MA in Media Design at HEAD – Geneva.

The Swiss Game Lounge will be located inside Glaziers Hall and is open to the public. Read more about the Swiss Game Lounge on our website.

Cultural Partner Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia

With its GameCulture programme, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, together with its partner institutions, aims to provide an artistic angle to the booming computer game scene and stimulate broadly based discussions on the new art discipline of interactive game worlds.

Video games have become part and parcel of our everyday culture. The market is booming; the game industry now has the highest turnover in the cultural business world. Almost twice as much money is spent on gaming as on cinema tickets. In Switzerland, an innovative game development scene has emerged that creates increasingly complex digital worlds.

That is the context in which Pro Helvetia launched its GameCulture programme in September 2010 to spotlight and deal with the social, economic and aesthetic issues connected with this new form of art and to highlight the artistic qualities of video games.
