SRG SSR idée suisse
SRG SSR idée suisse comprises seven enterprise units: Schweizer Fernsehen (SF), Schweizer Radio DRS (SR DRS), Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR), Radio Suisse Romande (RSR), Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI), Radio e Televisiun Rumantscha (RTR) and Swissinfo. With 18 radio stations and seven television channels broadcasting in the four official Swiss languages together with a variety of related websites and teletext services, it is Switzerland’s largest electronic media provider. Its programming is shaped by a public service remit.
At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, SRG SSR will have an on-site staff of 210 to produce Olympics programming for its radio stations and TV channels. The additional SRG SSR infrastructure – including its own cameras, editing desks, commentary and presentation positions – will spotlight Swiss athletes in particular, transmitting Swiss-made radio and TV coverage of the Olympics into Swiss households.
What's more, SRG SSR idée suisse has been commissioned by Olympic Broadcasting Services Vancouver (OBSV) to produce the global television signal for the downhill skiing disciplines. Some 89 staff from the SRG SSR Enterprise Units SF, TSR, RSI and TPC will be in Whistler to work on the events. Production equipment will be provided by host broadcaster OBSV.
SRG SSR was previously responsible for producing the global signal for the downhill, super G and super combination downhill speed skiing disciplines at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. It also produced the global signal for the rowing events at the Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Summer Olympics.
